Social Ride #56 – Gong Ride

Achieve legend status by putting all that training (or winging it) into practice for a good cause.

As a reminder to seasoned riders, and an education for new riders, here’s a hit list of what you need to do. Please action it if you haven’t already!
1. Bus (Bus Link)
If you’re taking the bus, book your ticket. Then, you gotta box your bike! The best way is to grab a bike box from your local bike shop and collapse your bike down so she fits neatly. It protects your steed in transit.
The bus heads down to the Gong on Saturday. Load your gear onto the bus on the morning of the ride which will meet us at Wollongong Sunday lunchtime.
Bus departs back for the hunter at 2:30pm Sunday arvo.
2. Awards Dinner Sat 4th Nov (Dinner Link)
Join us as we celebrate the year at our Awards Dinner the night before our ride. This year, it’ll be at the Southern Cross Hotel, St Peters. Your ticket gets you finger food dinner and a modest beverage package.
We’ve got 2 spare rooms at the Southern Cross available. Email me if you’re keen – first in best dressed.3. Uniforms (Uniform Link)
Why not look the part, and celebrate our generous sponsors. Pick up at Albion hotel, Singleton this 5:30pm Friday as it’s our last raffles night for the month. You might end up picking up a meat tray as well!

4. The ride itself
For those who aren’t going to be at the Awards dinner (where I’ll go through the proceedings) here’s the low-down:
- Start: Meet at the startline around 6:30am for a team photo. (look for the mass of green/black jerseys!)
- Rest Stops: Feel free to stop at the various rest stops along the way, but notably:
- Muffin stop (Heathcote) – fuel the tank

Official Soft Cogs Scarborough Rest Stop – yes that’s right! The MS Events team has named a rest stop after us!

Scarborough Hotel – one of our fave stops. Pull over for a mid ride bevvy before taking on the last 20km. But don’t stay too long!
- Finishline: Put your feet up at the Soft Cogs marquee at the finishline. The lads from the mining school Uni Wollongong will be catering for us and there’ll be refreshments to reward your efforts! The MS presentation starts at 12:30 on the main stage – head on down! Don’t forget the bus leaves at 2.30pm.
5. Kicking on?
Some of the crew are staying down Sunday night in Wollongong. If you’re doing so also and wanna hang, shoot me a message!
6. Fundraising
Lastly, and most importantly, let’s not forget why we’re doing all this. Every buck you fundraise helps Aussies living with MS go through life a bit easier. The most effective way is to share your MS Gong Ride profile in an email / social media to score some coin.
